The Degreed Nutritionist is responsible for providing nutrition and breastfeeding education to Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program participants individually and in groups to assure quality service. The Degreed Nutritionist also determines client eligibility and implements WIC Program services to eligible participants.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Determine WIC program eligibility of clients, following and interpreting WIC policies.
• Document WIC program eligibility using the WIC Management Information System (MIS).
• Determine the medical/nutritional risk of applicants/participants by evaluating anthropometric, biochemical, dietary and other health-related data.
• Teach nutrition and breastfeeding classes according to agency lesson plans, in group and individual settings using adult learning theories.
• Provide low and high-risk nutrition and breastfeeding counseling to participants using Participant Centered Education (PCE) principals and techniques.
• Assist with the development of WIC class lesson plans and materials.
• Reinforce Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) goals prescribed by the healthcare provider.
• Create the initial individual nutrition education plan (INEP) for participants and electronically document summaries of appointments.
• Act as a liaison between participants and health care providers as needed for continuation of quality service.
• Provide counsel on nutritional and health-related problems in an empathetic manner, observing sound nutritional practices and participant confidentiality.
• Promote breastfeeding as the recommended method of infant feeding; provide counseling and support to breast-feeding mothers.
• Assist with the Electric Breast Pump Loan Program.
• Provide referrals to other health-related programs and social services, as appropriate.
• Prescribe and issue appropriate WIC food packages to participants.
• Maintain food instrument security.
• Participate in outreach activities.
• Assist Clinic Manager in training staff on WIC policies and guidelines

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Dietetics or related field. 
• Bilingual Spanish 
• Knowledge and experience in nutrition education and interventions.
• Computer proficiency, particularly with the Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Experience with low income, multicultural and multilingual populations.
• Knowledge of WIC program and maternal child health.
• Familiarity with electronic health/medical record systems.

The pay range for this role is $25.04 - $34.07 on an hourly basis.

If you are hired at TrueCare, your final base salary (within the pay range), will be determined based on factors such as education, knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider the internal equity of our current team members when determining any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical to allow for future and continued salary growth. We also offer generous benefits and retirement plans.
