More than 60 ‘cocaine bullets’ were recovered from the 30 year old woman’s stomach after she was arrested on arrival at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg
An airport X-ray uncovered an alarming number of “cocaine bullets” in a woman’s stomach after she ingested packages of the narcotic.
The 30 year old, who has not been named, was apprehended upon her arrival at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg following a tip-off to police about a drug carrier on a flight from Sao Paulo, Brazil.
More than 60 “cocaine bullets” were retrieved by officers after an X-ray detected the items within the suspect’s stomach.
Brig Athlenda Mathe, the national police spokesperson, commented: “The team immediately intercepted the drug mule as she was making her way through immigration. She was immediately arrested, taken to a local hospital where a medical X-ray confirmed and detected foreign objects in her stomach. She has already released more than 60 bullets of suspected cocaine thus far. She is currently under police guard and custody.”
“The value of the drugs cannot be determined at this stage as the process to release all suspected drugs from the suspects body may take some time,” Brig Mathe further stated, reports the Mirror.
General Fannie Masemola, the national commissioner of the South African Police Service, commended the swift action of the authorities as they strive to tackle criminal activity at OR Tambo International Airport.
