Many trapped as four-storey building collapses in Abuja

Many occupants have been trapped as a four-storey building at No.11 Nkwere street in Unity House, Area 11 in the Garki area of the Federal Capital Territory is reported to collapse on Monday 1 July 2024.

The Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh is said to have confirmed the incident this morning, also informing that three victims have been successfully rescued from the rubble, while search is still ongoing.

This sort of accident is rampant across Nigeria cities and states due mainly to corrupt practices at stages of state approval of house plan and also use of sub-standard building materials to cut cost.

The Abuja Police PRO said the attention of the National Emergency Management Agency of Nigeria and FCT Development Control was drawn to the situation, and their personnel have taken charge of the area for robust management of the scene”.

What is most unfortunate is that despite public outcry for proper implementation of housing plan this sort of accidents has persisted causing lost of life of city dwellers.
