In Uganda, Daughters beat 89-year-old mother to death over land sale

Land related disputes contribute to more than 80 per cent of the cases at the office of the Resident District Commissioners (RDC) in Luweero District

The Territorial Police in Luwero district is actively investigating a case of murder by assault which occurred on Friday 26/04/2024 at John’s clinic Bbowa.

The deceased has been identified as Nalujja Yowanina aged 89years old a muganda by tribe and a resident of the above address.

Preliminary information indicates that on the 25/04/2024 at the above address, Naziiwa, Nafuna,Naiga and Namutebi all daughters of the deceased beat their mother while demanding for the money that she had sold her plot, after the fight she was rushed to John’s clinic at Bbowa where she was pronounced dead.

ASP Twiineamazima Sam the Savannah region police spokesperson said that,upon police receiving the information from chairman of the same area they responded immediately a case of murder by assault was registered, scene visited and documented by soco and homicide squad from bombo, relevant statements were recorded from relevant witnesses four suspects in connection to murder were arrested and the body conveyed to Mulago city mortuary for postmortem examination.

He added that investigations are still ongoing to establish the actual cause of this incident thae led to loss of life of the old mother.
