Tragedy as Mother, 5 Children Die After Eating Local Delicacy in Kano, Police React

A tragic incident occurred in Karkari village, Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State, where a mother and her five children lost their lives after consuming Danwake, a traditional Hausa delicacy. The unfortunate event took place on Thursday, August 15, at the home of the late Malam Abdulkarin.

According to reports from a neighbor, Garba Muhammad, the widow, who was struggling with economic hardship, prepared the meal using expired cassava flour. The dire financial situation had driven her to use the expired ingredient, leading to the family’s untimely death.

“Eating the food led to the d£ath of the six members of the family, including the mother,” the source said.

Those who lost their lives include Alhakatu Abdulkarim and her five children; Bashir, Firdausi, Hafsat, Usman and Jamilu.

The spokesperson of the State Police Command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who confirmed the incident on Saturday, August 17, said six members of the family who ate the food were rushed to Gwarzo General Hospital where they were confirmed d£ad by doctors. Kiyawa added that investigation had commenced to ascertain the cause of their death.
