About the Company:

A rapidly growing consumer finance company is seeking a strategic and business-oriented Vice President of Legal to lead its legal and regulatory functions. This company is committed to providing responsible and innovative financial solutions to consumers while maintaining the highest standards of compliance and risk management.

Position Summary:

The Vice President of Legal will serve as the primary legal advisor, overseeing regulatory compliance, corporate governance, and legal risk management. This individual will work closely with executive leadership and business teams to support the company's growth while ensuring adherence to all relevant consumer finance laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the legal function, providing guidance on all legal and regulatory matters related to consumer finance, debt collection, and compliance.
• Ensure compliance with federal and state consumer finance laws, including but not limited to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), Truth in Lending Act (TILA), Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA), and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) regulations.
• Develop and implement legal strategies to support business objectives while mitigating legal risks.
• Oversee corporate governance matters, including contract negotiations, risk management, and regulatory reporting.
• Collaborate with compliance and risk management teams to develop and enhance policies and procedures related to lending, servicing, and collections.
• Manage relationships with external legal counsel and regulatory bodies.
• Provide legal support for new product development and business initiatives, ensuring compliance with applicable laws.
• Advise on litigation strategy and manage legal disputes as necessary.

Qualifications:

• J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar membership.
• Minimum of 5 years of legal experience in the consumer finance industry, with a strong focus on consumer debt, lending, and collections.
• Deep understanding of consumer finance laws and regulations at both federal and state levels.
• Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, high-growth environment and provide practical, business-oriented legal advice.
• Strong leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.
• Experience working with regulatory agencies and managing compliance programs is a plus.
