ASSIGNMENT DETAILS

UC San Diego is hiring 3 temporary Building Maintenance Workers to support campus transportation operations.

Duration: This role is anticipated to last 5-6 months.

Compensation and Benefits: $21.27 per hour. This role is eligible for a night shift differential of $1.00. Eligible for Mid-Level Benefits including medical plans, paid holidays, and vacation/sick leave.

Work Schedules: Must be able to work the night shift. 3 shifts are available.

  • Tuesday - Saturday 10:30 pm - 7:00 am

  • Sunday - Thursday 10:30 pm - 7:00 am

  • Friday - Tuesday 10:30 pm - 7:00A

Location:100% on-site on campus in La Jolla

DESCRIPTION

Under supervision, minor repairs to parking lots, including striping and stenciling, must be performed. Will create and install directional signs. Perform minor repair and unskilled tasks in maintaining, altering, and repairing department offices and facilities. Monitor and inspect parking lots and structures for cleanliness, hazardous conditions, and suspicious activity.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Perform minor repairs of parking lots, including striping and stenciling
  • Create and install directional signs
  • Assist in the installation, modification, repair, and maintenance of parking operations and parking office support equipment
  • Monitor and inspect parking lots and structures for cleanliness, hazardous conditions, and suspicious activity
  • Report faulty parking equipment, safety hazards, excess trash, lighting issues, and suspicious activity to supervisor
  • Maintain cleanliness of parking structure elevators and stairwells, and other areas as assigned
  • Perform minor striping and stenciling of parking lots/structures
  • Install and remove signs as needed
  • Maintain and repair paint stripers and other parking lot equipment
  • Operate and maintain power and hand tools necessary for maintenance tasks
  • Clean and maintain maintenance tools and equipment
  • Provide concise directions to the public with a high degree of accuracy and helpfulness
  • Operate two-way radio and/or cell phone to maintain constant communication with department entities and campus police
  • Assist with transporting items to and from medical centers, campus, vendors, and off-site storage locations
  • Maintain supply inventory and shred documents as directed by the Supervisor
  • Report suspicious activity and/or safety concerns to Supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous experience in building maintenance or a related field.
  • May be required to work different or altered shifts, weekends, holidays and overtime.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid California driver's license and participate in the DMV Pull Notice Program.
  • DOJ, FBI, and DMV background checks and clearances required prior to hire.
  • Must be able to lift, push, and pull heavy objects (up to 50 pounds).
  • Must be able to work in a variety of environments including indoor and outdoor areas.
  • Must be able to climb stairs and ladders, and work at heights
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required

This position has been identified as a Mandated Reporter pursuant to the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) and requires immediate reporting of physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, or neglect of anyone under the age of 18. It is the responsibility of the Mandated Reporter to ensure that they obtain proper training in order to fulfill their reporting responsibilities as required by the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and University policy, and to complete and submit the required reports to the UC San Diego Police Department without delay.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $44,412 - $56,376 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $21.27 - $27.00

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
