  • Bachelor degree in mechanical engineering + 8 Years of experience

  • Professional experience with mechanical HVAC, plumbing, and gas/fluid distribution systems, including equipment sizing and selection.

Job Description :

Softworld' s partner is the prime defense contract holder and systems integrator to a long-term soul sources project. They are seeking an experienced senior mechanical engineer to support high-profile U.S. Navy weapon systems projects. The role involves supporting the Navy Program Manager for Strategic Systems Planning (SSP) Facilities Acquisition at TRIDENT Submarine Bases. The engineer will oversee projects from concept to operational stages, ensuring mechanical systems meet requirements for mission-critical facilities. Responsibilities include developing system designs, conducting reviews, and preparing documentation, with occasional travel to off-site locations.


Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Develop conceptual mechanical system requirements, HVAC load estimates, Bill of Materials, and facility documentation.
  • Conduct technical peer reviews of architectural/engineering design submittals.
  • Support the development of Facilities Design Criteria and Evaluation Testing Criteria.
  • Perform constructability reviews of construction design documentation.
  • Conduct and prepare engineering study reports, providing recommendations to address facility issues.
  • Apply expertise in HVAC equipment to select the most effective systems for facility design.
  • Ensure compliance with ASHRAE Standards (62.1, 90.1, 183) and perform life cycle cost analyses and ventilation calculations.
  • Provide input for MILCON documentation and preliminary construction cost estimates.
  • Guide mechanical system requirements for SSP facility construction to ensure operational effectiveness.
  • Generate correspondence, reports, and presentations for internal/external stakeholders.

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering + 8 Years of experience
  • Desire to attain a Professional Engineer License once in the position.
  • Professional experience with mechanical HVAC, plumbing, and gas/fluid distribution systems, including equipment sizing and selection.
  • Proficiency in calculating HVAC loads, piping sizing, and building domestic water/sewage system sizing.
  • Experience with design requirements and constructability reviews for detailed design submittals.
  • Working knowledge of ASHRAE Standards (62.1, 90.1, 183), including life cycle cost analysis and ventilation calculations.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams).
  • Familiarity with building energy modeling software (e.g., Trane Trace, Carrier HAP).
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally, with strong interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Understanding of project management principles and operations.
  • Planning, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of safety and compliance standards.

Desired Skills, Education, and Experience:

  • Professional knowledge of ASHRAE Standards, ASME Codes, & International Mechanical Cod
  • Professional experience performing mechanical calculations associated with ventilation system sizing
  • Professional experience of Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), Unified Facilities Guide Specifications (UFGS)
  • Previous experience in performing design drawings and supporting calculations associated with industrial facilities
  • Experience in the design, development or implementation of MILCON facilities.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft ACCESS or similar databases
  • Professional Engineer License
