CDU is strongly invested in the local and regional community. The university leads multiple partnerships and programs to provide equitable healthcare resources in a variety of south Los Angeles neighborhoods.

Job Summary:
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Research Assistant to support a qualitative study in the field of academic medicine. The successful candidate will play a key role in data collection, analysis, and project coordination. This position is ideal for individuals with an interest in medical education, health disparities, or social determinants of health, particularly those affecting medical trainees and professionals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Data Collection:
  • Conduct in-depth qualitative interviews with study participants, including medical students (current and former), residents, and faculty.
  • Transcribe and code qualitative data accurately and efficiently.
  • Maintain meticulous records of all data collection activities and ensure compliance with ethical and confidentiality guidelines.

Data Analysis:

  • Assist in the development of coding schemes and participate in thematic analysis using qualitative data analysis software (ATLAS.ti).
  • Summarize key findings and assist in the interpretation of results under the guidance of the Principal Investigator.

Project Coordination:

  • Coordinate participant recruitment, scheduling, and follow-up communications.
  • Prepare and submit Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications, amendments, and continuing reviews as needed.
  • Maintain and update study-related documentation and databases.

Literature Review and Dissemination:

  • Conduct literature reviews and synthesize findings to support the study's conceptual framework and contextual understanding.
  • Assist in the preparation of manuscripts, conference presentations, and other dissemination activities.

Administrative Support:

  • Coordinate team meetings, take meeting minutes, and track project timelines and milestones.
  • Provide general administrative support to the research team as needed.


Qualifications/Requirements:

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Public Health, Sociology, Psychology, Education, or a related discipline). Master's degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE:
  • Previous experience in qualitative research, preferably in a healthcare or academic setting.
  • Familiarity with qualitative research methods, including interview techniques and thematic analysis.
  • Experience with qualitative data analysis software (ATLAS.ti) is an asset.


KNOWLEDGE/ABILITY/SKILLS :

  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a research team.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining data integrity and confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
