Job Title: Painter for Contemporary Artist

Location: West Los Angeles

Employment Type: On-Site, Part Time, Private Contractor

Compensation: $35/hour

About the Role

A Los Angeles-based contemporary artist is seeking a highly skilled classical oil painter to contribute to ongoing projects. The ideal candidate specializes in traditional oil painting techniques inspired by the Renaissance or Baroque periods and has a strong foundation in Old Master-style realism or academic painting. This is a fully on-site, part-time contract position requiring an artist with exceptional craftsmanship, attention to detail, and technical proficiency in oil painting methods.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute highly detailed oil paintings using traditional techniques.
  • Assist with collage, painting, and drawing tasks related to the artist’s projects.
  • Ensure consistency in style, technique, and quality aligned with project requirements.
  • Utilize historical painting methods, including glazing, underpainting, and chiaroscuro.
  • Mix colors with precision and prepare canvases using classical priming techniques.
  • Assist with packing and shipping artwork for exhibitions and collectors.
  • Utilize Photoshop for image adjustments, documentation, and digital support.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional studio workspace.
  • Be prepared to travel internationally for exhibitions and projects, up to one month at a time.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience as a contemporary figurative oil painter.
  • BFA degree in Fine Art, Classical Realism, or a related field.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing 3-5 recent and most developed oil paintings.
  • Expertise in Renaissance or Baroque techniques, including layering, blending, and color theory.
  • Ability to match and recreate specific artistic styles with precision.
  • Strong color mixing skills and experience prepping canvases.
  • Highly reliable, organized, professional, and detail-oriented.
  • Proficient with Photoshop for digital documentation and image refinement.
  • Personal vehicle required for occasional studio-related errands.
  • Stable, confident, and humble—comfortable working in a collaborative environment.
