LOCKSMITH


The Facilities Department at Willamette University is responsible for the daily operations, maintenance and upkeep of approximately 1.4 million square feet of academic, residential, administrative and off campus properties situated on approximately 60 acres with all the associated utilities and infrastructure.


This position is responsible for the installation and maintenance of security devices including lock and key systems and related door hardware from various manufacturers. The position also includes the performance of manual and semi-skilled work related to the maintenance of buildings. Repairs are generally of limited difficulty and involve the application of skills at less than the journeyman level.



Duties and Responsibilites

  • Practices and encourages Facilities Management workplace expectations.

  • Installs and maintains security devices including lock and key systems and related door hardware.

  • Keeps records on all key cut information and maintains those records in the key system software.

  • Participates in the campus key control program including ordering and maintaining key and lock supplies and parts.

  • Modifies tumblers to fit locks.

  • Changes lock combinations.

  • Makes new or duplicate keys on key cutting machine.

  • Installs and maintains door hardware. Participates in the PM program on locks and door hardware.

  • Reviews door and hardware requirements for the University.

  • Estimates time and materials required for assigned work.

  • Assists in the installation of doors.

  • Maintain a clean organized shop and work environment.

  • Performs a variety of manual and semi-skilled work related to the maintenance of the buildings, including preventative maintenance tasks.

  • Assists other team members as needed.
    Performs other maintenance related duties as assigned.



Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum two years' experience as a locksmith with demonstrated journeyman level skill and ability in installing, altering, and repairing locks; or completion of an apprenticeship under a skilled locksmith.

  • Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license or certification.

  • Basic computer skills such as typing, email ability to fill out service request forms on-line required.

  • Possession of a valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record or ability to obtain one within 60 days of date of hire.

  • Working knowledge of the installation, alteration and repair of locks, locking systems and door hardware required.

  • Use tools and machines related to the trade.

  • Maintain the security of keying and locking systems.

  • Interpret and apply architect's instructions for a complete building keying system.

  • Estimate time and materials.

  • Communicate both orally and in written English.

  • Must have the ability to work independently as well as establish and maintain harmonious relations with other staff, faculty and students.
    Must have the ability to effectively interact with a variety of people in a manner that emphasizes strong customer service and portrays the University's programs, personnel and philosophies in a positive manner.



Preferred Qualifications

  • Five years or more locksmith experience.

  • High school education

Typical Work Schedule

  • Monday - Friday, 8am to 5pm

  • Fills in on weekends and holidays as required

  • Subject to after-hours callback for emergencies

Physical Demand and Working Conditions

  • Involves exposure to adverse environmental conditions as may be found working in a facilities setting which may include but is not limited to; working outdoors in inclement weather, extreme temperatures, noise, dim lighting, dust, dirt, confined spaces, high elevations, bio-hazards and other hazardous materials.

  • Routinely and safely lift 50 pounds.

  • Work while walking and standing for prolonged periods of time and while exposed to dirt, dust, infectious waste, obnoxious odors and inclement weather.

  • Climb ladders and work in confined spaces.

Salary: $29.39/ hour
