The histology manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the histology staff and laboratory functions. They perform duties of a histologic technician concurrent with lead tech functions.

This role reports to the Executive Director in Troy.

Essential Job Duties:

• Manages day-to-day laboratory technical and non-technical resources and operations to meet organizational and regulatory requirements.
• Manages and implements programs for staff hiring, orientation, compliance, competency, and ongoing training.
• Provides ongoing performance feedback to staff through coaching, performance review, and counseling to ensure staff performance expectations are met.
• Achieves department goals for service, quality, regulatory compliance, financial, patient satisfaction, and personnel management.
• Monitors department resource utilization, identifies and addresses variances to assure quality, and meets service and fiscal goals.
• Engage with the medical director to develop and review department policies and metrics for quality, service, and operations.
• Assures compliance with standards set forth by the facility and accrediting agencies: CAP, JCAHO, CLIA, FDA, and CMS.
• Manages daily, monthly, and annual quality control and management records/logs
• Responsible for HistoQIP proficiency test challenges.
• Responsible for Histotechnologist duties, including accessioning, grossing, processing, embedding, tissue sectioning, staining, data Entry, and daily quality control instrument and accessioning logs and forms.
• Assists with specimen collections at SCM as schedule allows.
• Accepts additional responsibilities as assigned by the senior leadership.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Histotechnology, Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Biomedical Science, Biology or Chemistry.
• Active ASCP certification.
• 3-5 years of Histology Supervisory level experience required.
• Experience in a hospital or central laboratory setting.
• Must successfully pass a background check and a drug screening upon hire.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to stand for long periods.
• Must be able to lift 20 lbs.
• Performs repetitive motions.
• Exposure to unpleasant and, at times, toxic/caustic chemical fumes. Must be able to work with chemicals that can cause burns/injury if they encounter skin.

Work Environment:

• Moderate noise lab with equipment, computers, phones, printers, and light foot traffic.
• Potential exposure to diseases or infections.
• Potential exposure to hazardous materials.
