Job Description

South Shore excavating contractor seeks dynamic, energetic and self-motivated individual to manage our large fleet of heavy equipment, trucks, trailers and crushing equipment etc. The successful candidate will be well organized, good communication and leadership skills as well as basic computer skills, data entry and record keeping experience. This position is responsible for 4-5 direct reports employees, mechanics, welder fabricator and a crusher mechanic. Mechanical experience on heavy trucks and equipment preferred but not mandatory. This is a fast-paced position that includes the ability to work with all facets of the organization to ensure timely repairs and optimal equipment up-time meet goals. Good communication skills and follow up are a must as well as the ability to work with vendors to facilitate outside repairs, shop stock and parts procurement are done in a timely and price conscious manner. The fleet manager must have the ability to think on their feet and manage multiple tasks and people with little input from upper management. Understanding the prioritization of repairs based on fleet utilization, equipment availability and the changing needs of the organization. Job duties include but are not limited too:
  • Primary point of contact for all maintenance & repairs to any of our assets.
  • Collect DVIR's and equipment cards, read, prioritize and facilitate repairs or maintenance based on the reported defects.
  • Manage the fleet mechanics schedules and ensure efficiency and the right person on the right job.
  • Maintain constant communication with G.M. & V.P. to ensure repair and budget priorities.
  • Maintain communication with site superintendents regarding maintenance and repairs to their assigned equipment.
  • Maintain the shop environment, supplies, organization of parts inventory and consumables, maintain clean neat shop.
  • Keep all required records, maintain fleet files and maintenance program to ensure timely P.M's.
  • Utilize our large list of vendors and contacts to keep cost controls on all items large and small, shop out aggressively.
  • Maximize overall up-time and equipment availability by ensuring that repairs are done completely and correctly the first time.
  • Overtime available.
