Duties
Essential Duties
- Review and respond to examination requests.
- Conduct research on computer technology to identify new methods for collecting data or recovering lost information.
- Review digital evidence and identify possible lines of investigation for further analysis.
- Collect and preserve evidence from computer systems in accordance with legal standards.
- Examination of metadata such as file creation dates, modification dates, and author examination.
- Examination of data structures such as file types and directory structures to determine how files are organized on a computer.
- Create detailed chain of custody for all evidence collected during an investigation, including signing off on the chain at each step in the process.
- Determination of meaning of data found on computers, phones, and other devices using computer forensic software tools.
- Conduct analyses on computer hardware, software, and operating systems to identify security vulnerabilities.
- Perform forensic analysis on computer hardware, software, and operating systems to recover data from damaged equipment or extract information from damaged media.
- Assist with highly specialized investigations.
- Assists in analyzing business processes and recommends technology solutions; participates in providing project design and coordination of technology projects to facilitate timely completion, quality and usability.
- Integrates new and existing systems in order to minimize data replication and enhance information collection and dissemination.
- Researches trends related to information systems and business applications; attends a variety of meetings and conferences as needed.
- Ability to analyze digital media, storage media, computers, mobile phones, smart phones, computers, computer related evidence, electronic networks and/or electronic network evidence.
- Minimum of 65% of time requires safe management and physical handling of electronics or other items having potential biological or chemical contamination that may contain carcinogenic or health-damaging properties.
- Must have the capability to respond to scheduled search warrants when required to assist in the acquisition and preservation of electronic evidence.
- Ability to work closely with others as a team.
- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
- Ability to prepare and present clear, accurate, concise, and objective written and oral reports.
- Ability to meet requirements and maintain required licensures and certifications as well as agency required in-service training.
- Ability to adhere to the standards and principles of the agency's core values and professionally represent the agency.
- Ability to report to work timely, consistently and as scheduled.
- Ability to perform all functions of the job classification without posing a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the work place.
Requirements
Eligibility Criteria
- Bachelor’s degree in digital forensics, computer science, computer engineering or related field or the equivalent combination of education and verifiable experience or certifications directly related to criminal investigations, forensic computer examinations, and/or cellular phone data extractions.
- Demonstrate adequate skills with regard to property/evidence collection and handling techniques.
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written, demonstrating awareness for human diversity to citizens and colleagues.
Necessary Special Requirements
- Duties often performed sedentary at desk for long periods of time with limited walking.
- Must be able to lift, push, carry or pull a minimum of 25 lbs. independently.
- Extensive use of desktop computers is required.
- Position may require travel to attend meetings and functions related to performance and required knowledge of essential duties.
- Successful completion of Cellebrite Certified Operator (CCO) and Cellebrite Certified Physical Analyst (CCPA) training with twelve (12) months of employment.
