Job Title : Data Scientist - Demand Forecasting

Location : Remote (Preference for candidates in Latam)

Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Data Scientist with a strong background in demand forecasting to join a flower grower and distributor generating $30M in annual sales. This role is pivotal in optimizing weekly sales forecasts, production schedules, and rack fills to minimize waste, improve inventory management, and enhance customer satisfaction.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience implementing demand forecasting models and leveraging advanced data analytics and machine learning techniques. They should also have familiarity with open-source large language models (LLMs) for ongoing optimization efforts.

This position will directly impact strategic decisions to streamline operations during peak months (April-June) and reduce reliance on seasonal hires.

Key Responsibilities

• Demand Forecasting : Build and implement advanced forecasting models to accurately predict weekly sales and optimize product distribution to stores.
• Inventory Optimization : Identify strategies to reduce waste and improve inventory management, ensuring the right flowers reach the right locations.
• Production Scheduling : Develop data-driven recommendations to improve production schedules, replacing manual processes with scalable, efficient solutions.
• Strategic Insights : Analyze customer demand to optimize internal KPIs, such as sell-through rates, and support planting strategies for long-term growth.
• Collaboration : Work closely with internal teams to codify constraints, streamline workflows, and provide actionable recommendations.
• Scalable Solutions : Incorporate open-source LLMs and machine learning techniques for ongoing model optimization and adaptability.

Qualifications

• Proven Experience : Demonstrated success in demand forecasting, preferably in the agriculture or distribution industry.
• Technical Expertise : Proficiency in machine learning, data analytics, and working with open-source tools and LLMs.
• Self-Starter : Ability to independently manage projects, identify opportunities, and deliver tangible results.
• Analytical Mindset : Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on improving operational efficiency and reducing waste.
• Communication Skills : Capable of explaining complex technical concepts to stakeholders and collaborating effectively with a diverse team.
• Familiarity with SMBs : Experience working with small to medium-sized businesses in the U.S. is a plus.

Preferred Experience

• Building and implementing demand forecasting models for seasonal products.
• Optimizing supply chain operations and production schedules.
• Analyzing and applying insights to inventory management in industries with perishables.
