Summary
The Compliance Officer is responsible for managing HR compliance efforts throughout Communities In Schools of Southeast Harris and Brazoria County (CIS) by ensuring that HR policies and regulated processes are compliant with applicable employment/labor laws, regulations, and industry standards. Partners with senior leadership, the business department, and other programs, auditors, and counsel to develop, implement, and maintain effective HR Compliance programs. The Compliance Officer is responsible for ensuring a company's human resource practices fully comply with all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations by developing and implementing compliance policies, conducting regular audits, identifying potential risks, providing training to employees, and advising leadership on compliance matters, ultimately aiming to mitigate legal issues and maintain a compliant workforce
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Policy Development and Implementation:
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge in employment law, regulation, and best practices within the HR space to ensure CIS remains compliant and current in its talent practices
- Review and update existing HR policies and procedures to reflect current employment laws and best practices.
- Develop new policies and procedures as needed to address emerging compliance issues.
- Communicate compliance policies clearly to all employees through training and documentation.
Compliance Audits and Monitoring:
- Conduct regular internal audits of HR practices to identify potential compliance risks.
- Analyze employee data and records to ensure adherence to employment laws.
- Investigate and address any compliance concerns or violations promptly.
- Engages in strategic long-term planning by developing goals for the HR compliance function recommending procedural improvements in compliance practices.
- Develops schedule of audits for selected HR practices and processes to ensure compliance and identify and address potential compliance risks.
- Works with senior leadership and business team to implement the recommendations, remediation and action plans resulting from audits.
Training and Education:
- Design and deliver compliance training programs for employees at all levels.
- Educate staff on new regulations and compliance updates.
- Provide ongoing compliance awareness initiatives.
Legal and Regulatory Expertise:
- Stay informed about current and upcoming employment laws and regulations at the federal, state, and local levels.
- Consult with legal counsel on complex compliance issues.
Reporting and Documentation:
- Maintain accurate records of compliance activities and audit findings.
- Prepare and present compliance reports to senior management.
- Document corrective actions are taken to address compliance issues.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Partner with senior leadership to address compliance concerns proactively.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure compliance across the organization.
- Advise hiring managers on compliance aspects of recruitment and onboarding.
Special projects and other related duties as assigned Qualifications - Deep understanding of employment laws, including ADA, FMLA, FLSA, Title VII, and other relevant regulations.

Education - A bachelor’s degree is required in human resources, business administration, or a related field .
- Master’s degree preferred.
- HR Professional certification (SHRM-CP or PHR) preferred.
Experience - A minimum of 5 years experience in an HR compliance
- Preferred experience in Compliance within a highly regulated industry.
- Must have a working knowledge of state and federal employment/labor laws and statutes, including but not limited to FLSA, FMLA, ADA, Title VII, and other DOL regulations.

- Prefer bilingual, but not required.

Work Environment This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, work on a computer, think clearly, and communicate effectively. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 10-15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a part-time position. An hourly schedule will be developed during normal working hours. Days and hours of work generally are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Travel Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
