Chief Medical Officer (CMO)

POSITION: Chief Medical Officer (CMO); Full Time

LOCATION: La Jolla, CA; On-Site

Redeployment specializes in connecting top talent with leading Life Science companies. We are partnering with a San Diego-based organization dedicated to advancing innovative therapies that drive meaningful outcomes for patients. This company is seeking a Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to serve as a strategic partner to the executive leadership team, shaping clinical development strategy and driving the clinical research and regulatory roadmap.

The CMO will oversee the company’s pipeline programs, ensuring the successful development and execution of clinical initiatives. This role will serve as the external clinical face of the company , representing the organization in interactions with principal investigators, key opinion leaders (KOLs), regulatory agencies, pharmaceutical partners, and investors.

This person will join a team of executives with a proven track record of success and innovation and they desire to bring new members to their team that are creative, curious, and want to improve the world around them.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The CMO will:

  • Provide strategic direction for all clinical and medical initiatives, identifying new opportunities aligned with the company’s mission.
  • Oversee clinical operations , medical monitoring, and regulatory affairs, ensuring alignment with the company’s development goals.
  • Lead clinical trial execution , delivering data to support regulatory approvals and commercial viability.
  • Drive indication selection and target market prioritization for drug development programs.
  • Foster relationships with principal investigators, clinical research organizations (CROs), regulatory bodies (FDA/EMA), and key stakeholders.
  • Act as the primary liaison for clinical and regulatory programs in interactions with regulatory agencies, partners, and the Board of Directors.
  • Represent the company at scientific and medical conferences, ensuring engagement with the broader oncology research community.
  • Oversee safety monitoring processes, including participation in the Safety Monitoring Board.
  • Lead clinical publication efforts , ensuring scientific rigor in all company-sponsored studies and presentations.
  • Develop and mentor a high-performing clinical development team, supporting recruitment and retention of top talent.
  • Stay informed on industry advancements, ensuring the company remains at the forefront of oncology research and clinical development.
  • Identify partnership opportunities with pharmaceutical companies, academia, and government agencies to accelerate drug development initiatives.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

REQUIRED:

  • MD or MD/PhD with board certification.
  • 10+ years of experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry
  • Extensive knowledge of oncology clinical development and medical literature.
  • Hands-on experience leading global clinical development programs, with an emphasis on Phase 1 through Phase 3 trials.
  • Proven success in regulatory interactions with the FDA, EMA, and other global regulatory agencies.
  • Track record of leading clinical programs through regulatory approval in the U.S. and internationally.
  • Strong scientific, medical, and regulatory expertise across drug development functions.
  • Ability to build and manage relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs) and industry experts.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and team management skills.
  • Experience presenting to diverse audiences, including executive leadership, board members, investors, and scientific communities.

PREFERRED:

  • Experience in small molecule drug development.
  • Prior leadership in regulatory affairs.
  • Established relationships with international oncology and hematology research communities.
  • Background in global clinical trials and multi-regional drug development strategies.
  • Experience designing and executing clinical trials in other regions of the world beyond the US.
  • Phase I experience in solid tumors or hematologic malignancies

BENEFITS:

Salary/Compensation: $350K - $475K DOE
