Job Description

LOCATION: Remote; resident within assigned region. States are AZ, CA,NM, NV, UT

SUMMARY: Build and maintain a network of the organization's very best friends who have both the heart and the means to make major and planned gifts in support of our mission. Develop strategies and execute plans to successfully identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward, such gifts from these individuals. Participate as a member of the Advancement team to build advancement program, according to individual talents and skills as needed by the NRA.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
1. Build sincere, positive, long-term relationships with major and planned gift prospects and donors in the assigned region for the benefit of the National Rifle Association.
2. Manage a portfolio of up to 150 prospects and/or donors to include the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major and planned gifts reflecting the needs of the NRA and the interests of the donor.
3. Identify new major and planned gift prospects through NRA programs and contacts. Provide initial and ongoing rating and analysis of each prospect's ability to give and their areas of interest in the NRA.
4. Work with the Director of Gift Planning to develop and implement strategies to cultivate, personally solicit, and steward major and planned gifts utilizing personal contact, correspondence, NRA programs, events, materials, other members of the NRA Advancement/management team, and the elements of the fundraising system known as Moves Management.
5. Work with the Director of Gift Planning to establish productivity, activity, and personal work-related goals at the beginning of each year.
6. Make a monthly minimum of 12 face-to-face meetings on assigned prospects and raise gifts equal to or greater than an agreed annual goal to be established by the Advancement Officer, the Director of Strategic Giving, and the Executive Director of Advancement. Enter each month's moves in Virtuous by the fifth day of the following month.
7. Coordinate planned giving efforts within the assigned region with members of the Planned Giving staff taking and referring prospects that are motivated to become members of the Heritage Society. Support donor cultivation efforts of current and potential members of the Heritage Society. These efforts could include Heritage Society functions, shoots, planned giving seminars, NRA Foundation events, and other opportunities to promote awareness of planned giving benefits.
8. Work with the Advancement Events Manager to develop the strategies, purposes, and messages for Ring of Freedom events in the assigned region.
9. As needed and able, recruit and manage volunteers to support Advancement objectives within assigned territory, including but not limited to, Ring of Freedom local events.
10. Work with the NRA Field Representatives within the territory to:
- Participate in Friends of the NRA events, as requested and as beneficial to the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of major and planned gift prospects.
- Provide leads on people to organize and attend Friends of the NRA events.
- Communicate regularly to build cooperation, trust, and successful fundraising strategies involving Advancement Officers and FONRA staff.
11. Prepare and submit, in a timely manner, correspondence with prospects and donors, and all reports to include timecards, monthly expense reports, and other reports as requested.
12. Develop and adhere to an approved annual budget to provide funding for the efficient accomplishment of assigned tasks.
13. Regularly participate in team conference calls.
14. Must live in the assigned region.
15. Adhere to all communications policies as established and adopted to ensure the consistency of message, accuracy of information and the appropriate use of text, graphics and logos.
16. Work with the Director of Gift Planning and Director of Advancement Communications, to develop needed fundraising materials and proposals for major and planned gift solicitations.
17. Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Required:
- A passion for the mission of the NRA.
- Personal and professional integrity.
- Four-year undergraduate degree or equivalent professional experience.
- Five years successful experience in individual major/planned gift fundraising or five years successful experience with the NRA.
- Ability to build personal long-term relationships with major/planned gift prospects and donors.
- Willingness to learn the most sophisticated major and planned gift fundraising techniques and strategies.
- Experience with successful one-on-one cultivation and solicitation of prospects for gifts of $5,000 or more.
- Successful experience in managing and tracking multiple projects/prospects.
- Motivated, self-starter.
- Ability to function well in a fast-paced work environment with minimal direct supervision.
- Creative, forward thinking, problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional organizational skills.
- Ability to develop and implement dynamic plans to identify, cultivate, and solicit major and planned gift prospects.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to use existing MS Office applications for personal administrative support and databases for prospect management.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently as well as a member of a team.
- Ability to work off-site in the Advancement Officer's home office.
- Ability to travel 14 days per month within and, on occasion, outside the region.
- Ability to work on weekends, as necessary.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.

Preferred:
- Knowledge and experience in managing budgets.
- Knowledge of non-profit rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of current trends in charitable giving, particularly in the areas of major and planned gifts.
- Experience working successfully with board members and/or key volunteers.
* The NRA defines a major gift prospect as a person (or in some specific cases a company or a foundation) with the capacity to give $10,000 or more. It is our intention to increase the amount as a major gift prospect as the program expands.
