The Republic of Türkiye has identified 76 wooden and metal artefacts believed to be of Nigerian origin, signaling a significant step toward their possible repatriation and the strengthening of cultural ties between both countries.
The announcement was made by the Turkish Ambassador to Nigeria, Mehmet Poroy, during a courtesy visit to Nigeria’s Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, in Abuja on Thursday. Ambassador Poroy stated that Türkiye is prepared to commence formal discussions on the return of the artefacts once the Nigerian government officially confirms and asserts ownership.
