Former US President Donald Trump said the United States will step up efforts to help end Sudan’s ongoing conflict following a request from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Speaking at a Saudi-US investment forum, Trump said the issue “was not on [his] charts” but acknowledged its importance to Saudi Arabia and regional partners.

The White House previously announced that the US is part of an international coalition seeking to stop the violence that has gripped Sudan for more than two years. It is not yet clear whether Trump’s remarks signal a renewed or expanded American role.

Trump described Sudan as facing “tremendous atrocities” and called it “the single biggest humanitarian crisis,” vowing to work with Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt, and other Middle Eastern countries to help stabilize the country.

Sudan has been engulfed in a brutal war between the national army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) since April 15, 2023. Thousands have been killed and millions displaced, with the RSF controlling all five states of Darfur and the army holding most of the remaining 13 states, including the capital, Khartoum.
