The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Tin Can Island Port Command, has seized illicit drugs valued at ₦5.3 billion concealed in imported vehicles across two containers from Canada.

According to a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSC OE Ivara, the interception followed intelligence-led operations and coordinated enforcement efforts. Comptroller Frank Onyeka, the Customs Area Controller, said the seizures reflect the Command’s commitment to border security and compliance with international trade laws.

The first container, intercepted on 4 September 2025, from Montreal, contained four vehicles concealing 156 packets of Colorado Indica (78kg) and 1.2kg of Hashish Oil. The second, seized on 24 October 2025, also carrying four vehicles, hid 2,081 packages of Cannabis Indica (1,093kg) and eight packages of Crystal Methamphetamine (8kg).

The narcotics have been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.

Comptroller Onyeka praised the NDLEA, Police, Navy, and other partners for their cooperation and warned smugglers that the Command remains vigilant and uncompromising in enforcing Nigeria’s trade and security laws.

NDLEA Commander Daniel Onyishi commended the Customs Service for its vigilance and reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to deepening collaboration in the ongoing fight against drug trafficking and transnational crime.
