Kenya Demands Safety for Citizens Amid Tanzania’s Post-Election Crackdown

Libya has called for stronger international cooperation to combat the illicit trafficking of weapons, describing it as a major threat to national and regional stability.
Speaking before the UN Committee on the Program of Action on Small Arms and Light Weapons in New York, Libya’s UN representative Issam Bin Zaytoun stressed the need for genuine global collaboration built on mutual trust, information sharing, and capacity building to help affected states secure their borders.
He emphasized that efforts to curb illegal arms flows must respect the sovereign right of states to possess conventional weapons for self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter.
Bin Zaytoun also urged that arms control measures be aligned with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 16, which promotes peace, justice, and strong institutions.
He reaffirmed Libya’s commitment to working with international partners to curb weapons smuggling and promote a safer, more stable global environment..
