Ghana’s Struggle with Enduring Government Corruption

Ghana’s government is fast-tracking plans to establish a new national carrier, marking a major step in its strategy to boost the country’s aviation profile and strengthen its position as a transport hub in West Africa.
The Transport Ministry has inaugurated a 10-member task force, led by Charles Asare, former managing director of Ghana Airports Company Limited.
Its mandate includes creating a sustainable business model, finding strategic and technical partners, and coordinating regulatory approvals, staffing, fleet acquisition, and route planning.
To reduce the financial burden, the government is actively seeking external partners. One such effort is underway with the World Aviation Group (WAG), which aims to support aircraft procurement, demand analysis, and network development.
In parallel, Ghana has engaged with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to secure technical expertise. During recent talks in Abu Dhabi, officials discussed long-term cooperation to help build and operate the new airline.
Transport Minister Joseph Bukari Nikpe emphasized that a national carrier is key to Ghana’s vision of becoming a regional aviation hub.
