U.S. Senator Condemns ‘Fraudulent’ Re-election of Tanzanian President, Calls for U.S. Action

Chad has closed its border with Sudan until further notice following deadly cross-border clashes linked to Sudan’s ongoing civil war.
In a statement on Monday, Communications Minister Mahamat Gassim Cherif said the decision was prompted by repeated incursions and violations by forces involved in the conflict in Sudan. He stressed that the measure aims to prevent the spillover of violence into Chadian territory.
Sudan has been engulfed in nearly three years of fighting between government troops and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, a conflict that has killed tens of thousands and displaced millions, creating one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises.
Chadian authorities reported that at least nine of their soldiers have been killed in separate incidents near the border since December, as paramilitary operations intensified in areas close to Chad.
The government announced the immediate suspension of cross-border movement of goods and people, while noting that limited humanitarian exemptions may be granted. It also warned that Chad reserves the right to respond to any further violations of its territorial integrity.
