Ghana Edges Up on Global Corruption Index, but Challenges Persist

Authorities in Ethiopia’s capital have temporarily banned the use of motorcycles as part of heightened security measures for the 39th African Union (AU) Summit taking place in Addis Ababa.
The Addis Ababa Transport Bureau announced that the prohibition takes effect on February 11, 2026, and will remain in force until the conclusion of the summit on Sunday. Officials said the measure is intended to enhance security and ensure the safe movement of visiting heads of state, diplomats and delegates attending the high-level gathering.
In addition to the motorcycle ban, city authorities have warned residents to expect significant traffic disruptions. Road closures, restricted access zones and tightened parking regulations will be enforced across key parts of the capital, particularly around major hotels, government buildings and the African Union headquarters.
The AU Summit, which draws leaders and senior officials from across the continent, is one of the largest diplomatic events hosted annually by Ethiopia. Security in Addis Ababa is routinely intensified during the summit period, with authorities urging residents to cooperate and plan their movements accordingly.
