90+ Abandoned Planes Are Set To Be Auctioned In Kenya

Most aircraft were last operated by Kenyan airlines, including flag carrier Kenya Airways.

  • Kenya Airports Authority will auction up to 92 aircraft if owners fail to pay outstanding charges and collect them within 30 days.
  • The auction includes Kenya Airways’ retired Boeing 737-300 and two McDonnell Douglas DC-9s operated by African Express Airways.
  • Wilson Airport has over 70 diverse aircraft, including general aviation planes and jets previously operated by larger airlines.

The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) will auction up to 92 aircraft parked at various airports in the country if their respective owners fail to pay outstanding charges and collect them within 30 days. This was announced in The Kenya Gazette in a notice dated January 19, 2024. The authority previously auctioned several aircraft that had been abandoned at its airports.

The KAA listed 92 aircraft that would be auctioned, including details of the aircraft types, registration, and last known operators. Several operators are listed, including the country’s flag carrier, Kenya Airways. The aircraft are currently parked at four airports:
