A United States–based organisation, Truth Nigeria, has claimed it warned the Nigerian government and security agencies several times about an impending attack on Yelwata village in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State days before the 13 June 2025 massacre that left nearly 300 people dead.

In a viral video, Judd Saul, founder of Truth Nigeria, accused the Nigerian government and its security agencies of ignoring the warnings and being complicit in the killings of Christians by armed groups described as Islamic terrorists operating across the country.

Saul alleged that despite notifying the military, DSS, and local authorities of intelligence indicating the planned attack, no action was taken to prevent it. He added that soldiers stationed less than a kilometre away reportedly fired warning shots but did not engage the attackers, allowing the massacre and destruction of homes to continue.

Criticising the local media, Saul said the Nigerian government often controls the narrative of violent incidents, limiting international coverage unless officials formally acknowledge the events. He said Truth Nigeria was established to document and publicise attacks against Christians in Nigeria and “tell the truth” the mainstream media ignores.

“We had intelligence about the Yelwata attack three weeks before it happened,” Saul said. “We issued alerts and informed all relevant authorities, but nothing was done.”

He also claimed that more than 500 Christians have been killed in various attacks across Benue, Kaduna, and Plateau States since the Yelwata massacre, most of which went unreported by Nigerian media.
