South African Man Arrested for Killing Girlfriend, Stabbing Her Teenage Daughter

A 48-year-old man has been arrested in Limpopo, South Africa, for allegedly stabbing his girlfriend to death and seriously injuring her 16-year-old daughter in Makatu village, Siloam area.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba said the suspect broke into the woman’s home in the early hours of Monday while she and her children were asleep. When the teenager tried to intervene after hearing her mother’s screams, the man attacked her as well before fleeing the scene.

Officers later discovered the 47-year-old woman dead with multiple stab wounds, while her injured daughter was rushed to hospital.

Following a tip-off, police arrested the suspect on Tuesday during a joint operation between Siloam detectives and Makhado police.

Acting Limpopo Police Commissioner, Major General Jan Scheepers, condemned the incident as another tragic case of gender-based violence and commended community members for assisting in the arrest.

The suspect is scheduled to appear before the Dzanani Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
