Burkina Faso Rejects US Deportees as Washington Halts Visa Services

The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) has approved the dismissal of two Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) officers, Aliyu Usman and Chukwu Nancy Ngozi, after they were found guilty of kidnapping, criminal conspiracy, theft, and illegal possession of firearms.
According to a statement from the Board, the decision followed internal disciplinary proceedings held on April 14 and September 4, 2025, confirming the officers’ involvement in serious criminal activities.
The dismissals form part of a wider disciplinary review concluded on July 11, 2025, during which the CDCFIB’s Disciplinary and General-Purpose Committee examined 31 cases involving NIS personnel. Following the review, the Board also approved:
The Board reaffirmed its commitment to upholding discipline, integrity, and accountability across the Immigration Service, stressing that all disciplinary actions were taken in full compliance with service regulations.
The latest actions follow similar anti-corruption measures by other federal agencies this year. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recently dismissed 27 officers for fraud and professional misconduct, while the Department of State Services (DSS) arrested two dismissed operatives for impersonation and fraud.
The CDCFIB reiterated that it will continue to enforce strict ethical standards within the Immigration Service to preserve public trust and institutional integrity.
Nigerian immigration and airport agencies have long faced criticism for alleged intimidation and exploitation of travelers. Numerous reports highlight recurring incidents of harassment, extortion, and the use of excessive force against passengers.
Despite repeated government assurances and reform pledges to curb these abuses, tangible improvements remain limited, leaving travelers with persistent concerns about accountability and professionalism at the nation’s ports of entry.
