EU Announces €75 Million Grant to Support Development in Egypt

The European Union plans to provide Egypt with a €75 million grant as part of a broader €7.4 billion support package (2024 to 2027) aimed at strengthening socio-economic development and stability.

The announcement will be made during the EU-Egypt summit in Brussels on Wednesday, attended by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Council President Charles Michel, and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.

According to EU officials, the grant will focus on healthcare, education, water, and sanitation, with special attention to women and youth empowerment.

The initiative underscores the EU’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Egypt in key areas such as economic reform, migration management, trade, and security.

The funding comes amid Egypt’s active diplomatic role in mediating the Gaza ceasefire and hosting the international Gaza peace conference earlier this month.

The €75 million grant complements previous EU allocations, including €1 billion in short-term aid approved in April 2024, as part of ongoing efforts to support Egypt’s economic stability and regional diplomacy.
