UN Agencies Urge Swift International Response to Worsening Humanitarian Crisis in Sudan

Kenyan police said its officer was killed on Monday after being shot with an arrow at the gate of State House, the official residence of President William Ruto.
According to authorities, a 56-year-old man armed with a bow and arrows approached the gate and was ordered to surrender. Instead, he fired at Police Constable Ramadhan Matanka, striking him in the ribs. Matanka was rushed to hospital but died while receiving treatment.
Police said the attacker, reportedly disguised as a homeless man carrying a sack concealing his weapons, was subdued and arrested after the assault. Video aired by local media later showed the suspect in handcuffs with visible injuries being taken for medical treatment.
The incident has sparked concerns over security lapses at one of Kenya’s most heavily guarded locations. The motive for the attack remains under investigation.
Police spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga condemned the “heinous act” and praised officers for their swift response, saying it prevented further harm. He offered condolences to the slain officer’s family, noting that Matanka “paid the ultimate price in the line of duty.”
