The family of the late South African Ambassador to France, Nathi Mthethwa, is demanding answers following his death in Paris last week.

Mthethwa, 58, reportedly fell from the 22nd floor of the Hyatt Regency Hotel on October 2, 2025, under circumstances that remain unclear.

French authorities are leading an ongoing investigation, supported by a South African delegation of five senior investigators dispatched by Acting Police Minister Professor Firoz Cachalia.

The team, led by Major General Maqhashalala, aims to collaborate closely with French officials to uncover the facts surrounding Mthethwa’s death.

Speaking from the family home in Kwambonambi, Mthethwa’s brother-in-law, Khulekani Buthelezi, emphasized the family’s call for transparency. “We just want the truth, nothing more,” he said, expressing gratitude for the government’s response while acknowledging the emotional toll on Mthethwa’s widow and relatives.

The family confirmed that arrangements are being made to repatriate Mthethwa’s body to South Africa, pending the completion of an autopsy in France.
