UN Agencies Urge Swift International Response to Worsening Humanitarian Crisis in Sudan

The Sudanese army said on Wednesday that its forces had killed several foreign fighters, including alleged Ukrainian mercenaries, during clashes with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Darfur.
In a statement, the army’s 6th Infantry Division reported that it carried out a “special operation” in Al-Karama Square in El Fasher, inflicting “heavy losses” on RSF units. Military sources told Russia’s Novosti news agency that those killed included “foreign fighters, among them Colombians and Ukrainians,” said to be supporting the RSF.
According to the army, the fighters had infiltrated parts of El Fasher and occupied tall buildings used by the armed forces. Some were described as drone engineers, while others allegedly acted as snipers.
The statement added that RSF units attempted to recover the bodies of the foreign fighters under cover of heavy artillery fire but were unable to do so.
