Kenya Demands Safety for Citizens Amid Tanzania’s Post-Election Crackdown

Nepal is reeling from last week’s violent anti-corruption protests that left at least 72 people dead and caused an estimated $177 million in damage. Government buildings, courts, police stations, and private businesses, including more than 20 hotels and the newly opened Hilton were torched or looted. The parliament and the prime minister’s office were reduced to ruins, while the Supreme Court lost critical records in the blaze.
The unrest also triggered the escape of over 12,500 prisoners, deepening security concerns. Protesters targeted symbols of political and economic power, setting fire to politicians’ homes, media outlets, and private offices.
Interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki acknowledged the “widespread loss of lives and property” as officials scramble to assess the damage. Economists warn that recovery will take significant time and resources, with tourism—one of Nepal’s largest employers—hit especially hard.
